GeroWallet 2.7.2: Notifications, Spanish, Search and a New Transaction History
GeroWallet 2.7.2 adds wallet notifications, Spanish as a third language, wallet-wide search, a redesigned transaction history and Receive screen, limit orders on more pairs, and a long list of fixes.

GeroWallet 2.7.2 is the update that makes the wallet talk back. It adds notifications for wallet activity that arrive even when Gero is closed, Spanish as a third interface language, a wallet-wide search, a redesigned transaction history, a rebuilt Receive screen, and limit orders on many more pairs. It also carries the longest bug-fix list of any 2.7 release, including the fix for Chrome freezing while a large wallet synced. This article walks through everything in the release, and, as always, what is still limited.

TL;DR

The GeroWallet 2.7.2 update is about the everyday: knowing what happened in your wallet without opening it, finding anything with one keystroke, reading your history at a glance, and finding the right address in one place. There is no new chain and no new licence this time. What you get is a wallet that is quieter to run and louder when it matters.

If you already run the wallet, the update arrives through the Chrome Web Store. If you are new, install GeroWallet and you get 2.7.2 from the start. If you missed the previous release, the GeroWallet 2.7 overview covers the open source code, the redesign and Midnight on mainnet.

First, the honest framing

Three things to know before reading the feature list.

Notifications have limits in this first version. They work in Chrome and other Chromium based browsers, for Cardano wallets secured with a password or PassKey. Hardware wallets and wallets created with Google are not supported yet, and alerts for staking rewards and DRep changes are listed in the settings as coming soon rather than live.

Nothing is sent without your confirmation. Gero offers to turn notifications on after the update, and a single password or PassKey confirmation enables them. Decline, and the wallet stays silent.

Some items roll out in stages. Earn availability depends on your country, and in-wallet staking with RealFi is being switched on gradually. Having GeroWallet 2.7.2 installed does not guarantee every flag is on for your wallet on day one.

Notifications that reach you when Gero is closed

This is the headline. GeroWallet can now notify you about wallet activity even when the wallet window is not open, delivered through your browser's push service.

In this release, alerts cover received funds, filled or cancelled swaps and limit orders, including limit orders that fill days after you placed them, and security events such as a new device being linked to the wallet. Security alerts are always on once notifications are enabled.

After the update, Gero offers to turn notifications on. One password or PassKey confirmation signs a proof that links this browser to your wallet; it is stored locally and lets Gero send alerts only for wallets you control. From there, each alert type can be switched off on its own, amounts are hidden by default until you choose to show them, and a minimum amount filters out small incoming transfers. Preferences sync across your devices, and a wallet can be muted on one browser without touching the others.

The bell icon in the dashboard and in Mini Gero becomes a notification inbox with an unread count, with anything that needs action listed first. Clicking an alert opens the related transaction or page. Settings → Notifications shows when the browser is blocking Gero's notifications and can send a test notification so you can see what an alert looks like.

We wrote a separate guide on setting up Cardano wallet notifications with the full walkthrough and the troubleshooting steps.

Spanish joins English and German

GeroWallet is now available in Latin American Spanish. New installs follow the browser's language, existing installs keep the language they have, and Spanish can be selected in Settings at any time.

This is not a surface translation. Dates, relative times such as "hace 5 minutos", and notifications follow the selected language.

Search the whole wallet with Ctrl+K

Search now covers the whole wallet. Press Ctrl+K and type to find pages, actions such as Send, Receive and Buy/Sell, settings, the tokens you hold, NFTs by name, and Midnight transactions by hash. Results match the wallet you are in, so a Cardano mainnet wallet does not surface Midnight results.

One shortcut worth knowing: searching "DUST" leads straight to DUST registration on Midnight, or to DUST generation for Cardano wallets holding cNIGHT. If that sentence needs explaining, our guide on the easiest way to generate DUST has you covered.

A transaction history you can actually read

The transaction history has been redesigned around the question you actually ask: what happened, and when.

Transactions are grouped by day with a daily net total, each transaction type has its own icon, and the search box is always visible. History and UTxOs sit on the same page.

Transaction details were rebuilt as well. Type, status and amount sit at the top, followed by copyable details, explorer links and a breakdown of balance changes. One deliberate choice worth knowing: the fiat line in the details is labelled "at today's price", not the price at the time of the transaction. We would rather label it honestly than show a number that looks historical and is not.

Labels are more accurate too. Swaps made in Gero are tagged "Gero Swap", cancelled orders appear as "Order Cancelled", and transfers between your own addresses appear as "Self Transfer". DUST registrations no longer show up as DEX orders, and incorrect token amounts plus a missing copy button in transaction details were fixed.

One Receive screen for every address

The Receive screen was rebuilt around a single address switcher, so you stop hunting for the right string.

For Cardano you can show your payment address, your stake address, or your DRep ID in either the CIP-129 format or the legacy CIP-105 one. For Bitcoin you can pick SegWit, Legacy or Taproot. For Midnight you can pick your public address, your private address, or your DUST address. The QR code sits beside the address with buttons to copy it and to save the QR as an image, and a short note under each address says what it is for.

Bitcoin remains testnet only in this release, so the Bitcoin addresses are for testing, not for receiving real BTC. Our guide on finding your Cardano stake address and DRep ID goes through the whole screen.

Swap: more pairs, more venues, limit orders back

Limit, stop and OCO orders could not be placed in the previous version. That is fixed, and limit orders now work on many more pairs, such as ADA/SONG, across Splash, WingRiders and Minswap V1 as well as Minswap V2. The Limit, Stop and OCO tabs explain when a pair does not support that order type, so you find out before you build the order rather than after.

SundaeSwap V4 is now a supported swap venue, including cancelling orders placed in Gero. That is also what makes USDrf swappable in Gero as the venue rolls out. More tokens can be swapped directly for other tokens without going through ADA first.

Open orders stay listed in Swap History, and a pending cancellation shows how much time is left to approve it, which helps when you are signing with a hardware wallet. Orders can be cancelled without collateral set aside in the wallet. Swaps with a price impact above 20% now require an explicit confirmation, balances are shown for both tokens, and MAX on ADA leaves enough to cover the swap's fees.

Under the hood, Ledger and Trezor failing to sign DEX orders and other transactions with smart contract data is fixed, as is swap signing on Bluetooth capable Ledgers connected by USB. We put the details, including how the order types differ, in how to place a limit order on Cardano. For the aggregator itself, see the swap page.

Earn with RealFi, now on mainnet

Earn stakes USDrf, a dollar backed token, to earn yield from real world assets through RealFi. In GeroWallet 2.7.2 it moves to Cardano mainnet and into the Financial Hub, next to Staking.

A step-by-step guide covers everything from getting USDrf to staking it, and ticks off each step based on what the wallet already holds. Staking, unstaking, claiming and cancelling happen inside Gero with any wallet type, including Ledger, Trezor and Keystone. A preview before signing shows the amount to be received and estimated yearly earnings, a 90 day chart shows past yield, and an unstaking card tracks claim dates with a Claim button once funds are ready. Earn data loads through Gero, so viewing Earn no longer shares wallet addresses or IP addresses with RealFi.

Two limits are stated plainly in the wallet. Earn availability depends on your country, with investor requirements in some, and in-wallet staking with RealFi is being switched on gradually. We do not quote yields here, and neither should anyone else on our behalf: the figure you see in the wallet is the only one that counts.

Wallet and dashboard

The wallet list can now be sorted by name, blockchain, network or date added, on the sign in screen and in Mini Gero.

Errors got honest. A failed transaction now shows the network's reason for rejecting it, and when it is unclear whether a transaction went through, the message advises checking the history before sending again. When a balance is spread over too many small UTxOs to send in one transaction, Send says so instead of failing quietly.

Newly received tokens show their name, decimals and logo straight away. Wallets with busy addresses catch up in seconds instead of minutes after reconnecting. Buy and Sell open MoonPay directly, one step shorter. The whole app shares a refreshed frosted glass look with a redrawn Cardano dashboard background, and the extension download is about a third smaller.

Midnight

Two things changed for Midnight users and several things were fixed. When your DUST balance reads zero, Send now offers a fee sponsor instead of blocking the transaction, and Midnight sends prepare their fees faster.

On the fix side, Midnight mainnet wallets that stopped syncing on 30 September sync again, with a one time resync after updating. Sends failing with "too many requests" are fixed. The DUST battery no longer double counts DUST, and no longer shows "Not registered" for wallets with many stake keys or a DUST address registered from another wallet. Mini Gero now lists every Midnight token, including USDM, and proof server and proving settings survive a browser restart.

If DUST is new to you, start with what DUST is on Midnight or the Midnight wallet page.

Governance and security

Abstain votes are now included in governance vote tallies, and treasury withdrawal proposals list every amount and recipient. Tallies are clearer: the DRep and stake pool "No" count reads "No or not voted", the Constitutional Committee bar shows the two thirds threshold, and percentages are rounded properly. Governance proposals and DRep profiles showing without a title or description, and a false "metadata hash mismatch" warning on governance actions, are both fixed.

On the security side, the release carries security and privacy improvements throughout the wallet. Wallets set up to approve transactions from another device may see a one time prompt in Settings → Security to re confirm that link, and changing the spending password on a Bitcoin or Midnight wallet no longer fails with a "wrong password" error. The wallet's security model is described on the security page.

The fixes you are most likely to notice

The full list is long, so here are the ones that touched the most people.

Big wallets. Sending, staking and DUST registration failing for wallets with many UTxOs is fixed, as are balances and tokens going missing for addresses holding more than 100 UTxOs, and syncing a large wallet freezing every Chrome window for a few seconds.

Sync. Sync occasionally stalling is fixed, with missed transactions recovered after reconnecting, and wallets no longer show an empty or outdated balance after a sync interruption.

Swaps. Newly listed tokens now appear in Swap without locking and unlocking, swaps no longer fail with "not enough ADA" for wallets holding many NFTs, and swaps are no longer routed through closed pools.

Prices and data. Outdated or inflated token prices and charts, the 1h change stuck at 0.0%, euro prices not loading, and missing NFT images and token logos are all fixed. The in-wallet blog shows new posts again.

Other chains and features. Apex Prime and Apex Vector wallets sync and show transaction details again, cashback claims work, and the perpetuals market list recovers after a failed load.

For dApp developers

getExtensions() now returns only the CIP extensions actually enabled for the connection. Calling enable() without requesting any extensions returns an empty list, and CIP-142 is included when requested. submitTx errors now include the network's rejection reason in info, which should make failed submissions far easier to debug.

What we are not claiming

Bitcoin is still testnet only. The new Receive screen shows Bitcoin address types, but that is for testing.

Notifications do not cover everything yet. Chromium browsers, password or PassKey Cardano wallets, and no staking reward or DRep alerts until a later update.

Earn is not on for everyone. Availability depends on country, and in-wallet staking is switching on gradually. We publish no yield figures.

Fiat values in transaction details are today's price, not a historical record.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to do anything to get GeroWallet 2.7.2?

No. The extension updates through the Chrome Web Store like any other update. Midnight mainnet wallets resync once after updating. If you are new, install GeroWallet and you start on 2.7.2.

Are notifications on automatically?

No. Gero offers to turn them on after the update, and nothing is sent until you confirm with your password or PassKey. Amounts stay hidden in alerts unless you choose to show them.

Can I get notifications on my Ledger or Trezor wallet?

Not in this release. Notifications are available for Cardano wallets secured with a password or PassKey, in Chrome and other Chromium based browsers. Hardware wallets and wallets created with Google are not supported yet.

Can I switch GeroWallet to Spanish?

Yes. New installs follow the browser language. Existing installs keep their language until you change it in Settings, where Spanish now sits alongside English and German.

Does 2.7.2 add Bitcoin mainnet?

No. Bitcoin stays testnet only, with mainnet to follow. Do not send real BTC to a Bitcoin address shown in the wallet.
